SLJ Setting sail

Kia ora, Today is the first day of summer learning journey I am
really excited. This activity is about how the polynesians
navigated and what they used. I have learnt that the
polynesian navigators used the sun, moon, stars, planets,
the ocean currents and clouds. They used these to guide their
way through the ocean they also used them to find land.
For this activity we also had to list 10 food items we would
take with us on a waka hourua (Double held canoe)

Here are my 10 food items and why I would take them.

Teaser Week

This week is teaser week. If you don’t know what teaser week is,
Teaser week is a week where you can do heaps of activities.
Like find out things about a famous actor or singer This was
very fun. I had to find out information about Lorde. My
favourite fact I found about Lorde was that she has a
neurological condition; Which means when she hears
sounds of music she can see colours. This condition
also includes strokes, migraine and multiple sclerosis.
We are also doing this to practise for the summer learning
journey in the holidays and so I can improve over the holidays.

Action World

In Te Ngahere this week we went to Action World, it was really fun.
When we were walking to action world it was very windy.
My favourite thing about Action world is the battle zone and the
tightrope. The first couple of times I went on the battle zone I fell
off because Izaiah was really confident and I wasn’t. On the rope
the furthest I went was to the blue line which was very difficult.
The only thing that was missing at Action World was the slide
because it was not blown up.
Here are some photos

My trip part 2

Last Saturday my aunty, cousin, and I went out for the whole day. For breakfast we went to Starbucks, I ordered a caramel latte, cake pop and a cheese and bacon croissant, it was delicious. After breakfast we went to a Market. At the Market we  purchased good presents for my cousins at home. I also got me some clothes and Airpods (not real). We went to a swimming place named Aquatopia, it's like a little Wet and Wild but it was still really cool. After all that we finished our day with a movie. It is no ordinary movie. It is  a drive in movie which means you get your car and drive it on to a parking lot. You also sit in your car and watch a movie. We Watched Maleficent 2
Here are some photos of that day.

Terrific tips on how to stay safe on a boat

Terrific tips on how to stay safe on a boat

Recently Whaea Tracy came to Paihia School for the last time this year. Once again she has taught me a lot. Most of the things she talked about I already knew but needed a reminder. She talked to Te Ngahere about boat safety. Something new I learnt this time was about different types of flares and what they do. There are three different flares. We learnt about the parachute flare, orange cloudflare and smoke flare. I learnt that the parachute flare is the best flare Because it stays visible in the sky more than the others. We also had to create a DLO  about 5 ways to stay safe on a boat. Next time I go on a boat I will remember these terrific tips
Here is my DLO

STEAM

In Te Ngahere for the first day back at School we did a Steam challenge. We were learning how to make a free standing tower using 2 sheets of newspaper and a 30 cm piece of tape. This steam challenge was very challenging for me. With our equipment we had to see who can build the tallest tower only using that equipment. We were not allowed to lean it on a table or anything else like a chair ect it had to be free standing tower. Emma and Zhynaliyah  Built the tallest free standing tower It was measured upto 118cm. The base of the tower worked well for our group because it made our tower easier to stand and keep stable. I found out that trying to keep the tower stable is very Hard. I Worked well with my group members Because we were listening to each other's ideas and we all helped each other. We also could of Made our tower taller and the top of the tower straight.

Here is a  photo of me and my group and our tower.

Culture festival

In Te Ngahere we have recently had a great opportunity, as you
know we have been practicing really hard for the kapa haka Cultural
festival.Last week (week 9) we went to the festival it was so fun.
Before I walked on to the stage I felt so  nervous because I Knew
my nan, cousin and brother would be in the audience watching me.
Once I was walking on to the stage I saw them smiling at me. When
we started to sing my stomach felt funny like there were butterflies
inside my stomach. Then I looked over to my nan and I saw her
crying then the butterflies disappeared. After the show my nan gave
me a big hug and so did my brother and cousin. Next time I could do
better at instantly doing the Pukana and always smiling .
I also hope we can have a another show next term.

Duffy Books and Rebecca Brothers

At Paihia School, we have recently had a great opportunity, Rebecca
Brothers came back to Paihia School to tell her story about Duffy
Books and how they helped her and her family through tough times.
This encouraged me to read more books, so I can get better at
reading. She also talked to us about how her usual day goes when
she was a little older than the seniors (12 and 13). Her usual day
starts with waking up at 6am to practice swimming after that she
goes to school and then she gets back in the water and swims till
8pm. We also sang the awesome duffy song. After the show we got
our duffy books the books I got were named Infernal Devices and
Horeta and the Waka. I have started reading Horeta and the waka
I am enjoying this book. I have not started reading Infernal Devices.
Here is some photos of us and Rebecca Brothers.

Kapa Haka

Kia ora bloggers, In Te Ngahere our kapa haka roopu has been
practicing really hard for next week, our roopu are going to
a kapa haka cultural festival in Kaikohe. We have been practicing
so hard to get everything right we have even been practicing at
our morning tea and lunch times and we are all ready for this
week's practice. We need to practice because we want to be
proud of ourselves and represent our school and ourselves. In
our bracket we are going to sing many songs and a haka. The
bracket is our performance from start to finish. I have been
struggling on my facials. The facials I am struggling on are smiling
and  the pukuana. I am trying to be really expressive with my facials
so hopefully I will look professional on the stage.
We can't wait to go to the festival.

Te Reo Maori

For the past couple of weeks we have been learning to ask and answer question using classroom items
in Te Reo Maori. For example,“He aha tenei? (What is this) then someone else will respond with“He
pene tena. (That is a pen). Then we had to make animations of ourselves and our buddy's asking and
answering questions. After we made our animation we had to screencastify our voices. I really enjoyed
learning and saying the Maori kupu, now I could practise saying them to my friends and my
class members.
Here is my animation,enjoy.

Cross country

Last week on Friday Paihia School went to the Bledisloe Domain to do
cross country. When we arrived at  Bledisloe we sat down and Mrs
William told us how the day was going to go. The first race was the 5
yr olds I was one of the marshalls so I cheered them on and told
them where to go. After the 5 yr olds was the 6 yr olds, then the 7 yr
old, 8 yr olds and so on. We kept going till we reached my race.
My race was the very last race. That race was with the 11yr olds and
12 yr olds  Vanya came 1st, Missy 2nd, Anyah 3rd, Zhynaliyah 4th,
Cheyenne 5th, Taleisha 6th, Me 7th, Muscles 8th and Emma 9th.
It felt so good to run over the finish line and our training really helped
a lot.

The hunter

In Te Ngahere we have been writing. In writing last week we
had to set ourselves a goal on what we were focusing on.
My goal was to choose words and phrases to enhance
meaning and/or mood most of the time. I think I did good
at it because I added words like Rumble, rumble, rumble,
my stomach screams for food. We had choices of what we
wanted to write about. Our choices were three videos.
One of the videos was called the dragon slayer, the others
were called Hunted and Pigeon Impossible. I chose to write
about Hunted, Hunted is about a little boy who is hungry
and really needs food.
Here is my writing for you to enjoy.

The Hunter
Rumble, rumble, rumble, my stomach screams for food. Alone in the jungle, scanning for food,
I can’t remember the last time I ate.  All of a sudden I catch the aroma of delicious roast meat.
Like a dog I follow the sent. Climbing over obstacles on my way.

I finally get there, my face gleams up in excitement ready to eat. Well I carefully tiptoe to the chicken,
I feel thrilled to reach out to it.

When I am reaching out to it, all of a sudden.. SLIP BANG!! In to a hole, all I see is darkness,
I set there terrified.

Looking around, I see a shadow, suddenly I hear a click, then a spark goes towards my eyes,
going blind for a few seconds realised I was upside down.

Energise

In Te Ngahere, We have recently had a great opportunity to learn
about the food we eat and what food is good for us, I found out that
the thinner the chip more the unhealthy it is. I also found out that
butter chicken is not good for us because most of it is cream.

Here is a photo of what is healthy for you and not healthy.
The left side is healthy for you. the right side is unhealthy for you.
The left side has stir fry, sweet and sour pork, Rice, sushi, Burger and
chips, Subway and lamb kurbard. On the right side there is KFC,
Mcdonalds, pizza, Butter chicken and fish and chips.

Science Fair 2

In Te Ngahere, as you know we have been carrying out a scientific
investigation. Our investigation was to see which pen lasts the
longest. On Friday we had a competition to see witch investigation
won. I think we all won because it was the first time we have ever
done this before and our boards are at a high standard. Our group
came second as well as the paper towel investigation.
Here is a picture of my groups board and how it was set out.

Science Fair

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to carry out a scientific
investigation. My investigation was to see which pen lasts the longest.
We did that by ruling 1 meter lines until it ran out.  After We finished
ruling lines with our pens (paper mate, office max, BIc and
Homebrand). Office Max lasted the longest and it lasted for 695m
(60,950cm) and the cost was 1.30$. The second one that last the
longest was Home brand (cost 30c),Bic (cost 90c) then Paper mate
cost 1.30$. The most challenging part was all ruling the lines and
writing.

Here is my presentation with more information.

NED

In Te Ngahere we have recently had another great show at Paihia
school. This show was special because it was about our mindset
and how we set it. At the show Nicole did awesome yoyo tricks.
The main part of the show is about NED, NED stands for, Never give
up, Encourage others and Do your best those are the meanings for
NED. She also told us some stories about Ned’s adventure and when
things got hard he kept trying. For example He went to Mount
Everest and tried to climb it, when things went wrong a yeti named
yet turns up and tells Ned about the power of yet.
( you can't do maths yet)
We also had to create something awesome.
Here is  my creation

every run we have been doing. The first run we did my time
was 8:12, 7:55 on my second run, 7:28 on my third run and my most
recent, 7:08. My goal for the next run is to lose a minute off of my
time.
Here is my graph from last week

the scientific method

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the scientific method. The scientific method is a method that scientist can use to test things. The scientific method starts with a question then you research and gather information about your questions, make a hypothesis, test, analyze your testing then you make a presentation. That is all the things in the scientific method. We are learning the scientific method for our science fair.
Here is my infographic about the scientific method.

Kapa Haka

In Te Ngahere a group of kids from the kapa haka roopu had a great
opportunity to go and perform at the Kawakawa Culture Festival.
It was really fun because of the food. My favorite piece of food was
the donuts because they were nice and sugary. I also liked the
cupcakes because there cupcakes and I got to see my cousins there,
before we went on the stage we were very nervous and excited.
Our bracket was awesome. I think I did good but there are still more
things I could improve on. I could improve on discipline, facials
(pukana and smiles) and I think we could of been louder with our
waitia. Besides that I think we did very well.

Disco

Last night, at Paihia School we had a Disco. It was so awesome and fun. We had glow in the dark face paint, drinks, nacho’s, hot dogs  music, light’s (really colorful lights) and we also had lots of people there. We also had two different times for the juniors (year 1-3) and the seniors (year 4-8).My favourite thing about our disco was hanging out with my friends after school. I also liked the light’s and how they are so colorful as well as that there were black lights there. A black light is a light that makes things glow. Here is a photo of me and my friend standing In front of a black light. Can you see how we glow?

Marble Challenge

In Te Ngahere we have been doing science experiment, which is called a marble run.
Our challenge was to stop the marble at exactly 110cm. We also had to write a set of
instructions to the other person who was making our ramp. After we tested it we had
a competition,  Putri and I got 15 points and the winners were Missy,Cheyenne and Emma.
After we did all of that. we had to write an reflection.
Here is my Reflection

What was something your group did well?
Worked together and we listen to each other's Ideas.
What is something you could have done better?
Use different materials like the ruler.
How close did your marble get to 110 cm?  Did the marble go further than 110 cm? Or shorter?
It went further
Why do you think your ramp was or was not successful? Why? Why not?
I think it was not successful because it went between 1-10 cm away from 110cm.
How clear were your instructions? What was something you explained well?
What was something that needed to be clearer?
Our instructions were not as clear as it should be.
What was something you explained well?
The thing we explained well was were to put the marble
What was something that needed to be clearer?
When I said put the front facing up and I could of said make the front cover face to the ceiling
and I should of gave them the photos of it.
If you had an opportunity to design a new ramp.  What would you change? Improve?
I would change our Instruction. Because it was difficult for the other people to build
it and they didn't know were to put every thing.

Expoler

In Te Ngahere we have been doing a panui activity. We were learning about 4 navigators named Kupe, Nukutawhiti,James cook
and Abel Tasman.I discovered that  Kupe was the first Polynesian to discover NZ. I struggled with finding information about each one of them. I enjoyed finding heaps of information about Kupe, his waka and finding out where I’m from.
Here is my presentation

Marble run

In Te Ngahere we have been doing some science, for science we had to make a marble run and stop it exactly at 110cm. At first it was really hard because we had no Idea what to do. Then we had more practices and it got easier and easier and we got better results It got easier because we had more practices. I learnt that I should not change heaps of variables at once. I think I did well at getting close to the mark.
