The Stargazer

In Te Ngahere a group of experts at blogging have been writing stories that have to be 100 words no more or less it has to be exactly 100. We also had to choose a photo after we chose a photo we had to create the 100 word story of the photo. Here is my story 

As an astronomer, Bob believed he had the best job in the world! Ever since he was a boy, Bob had been fascinated with stars, planets and moons. He sat there huddled up in a nice warm blanket he could see the stars among his feet, he had never seen anything like this before. He felt like he was in the deep blue sky. He loved this feeling. He felt like he was on top of the world with the stars like this.  Pulling out his camera he turns to capture photos of the nightsky and crack Ahhhhhh! He awoke.

My Interesting Mornings

 Kia ora bloggers, In Te Ngahere we have been re- learning our waitia first things every morning and Tuesdays during kapa haka. We have also been learning a new waitia called I Te Ao. I have really enjoyed our new mornings this week ,I can’t wait till prize giving only cause I am graduating and I can't wait to sing to the audience near the end of the year. I did well at the actions and memorizing the new words. I need to work on smiling. Did you know the maori language was never written down in the beginning?

How To Tee Ball

 Kia ora bloggers, in Te Ngahere we have been learning how to play tee ball, It was really fun. If you do not know how to play there is a tee that holds up a ball, you then have to hit the ball and run as fast as you can to the bases we had a total of four bases including the home base. I found tee ball really fun. I did well at running to the bases, I need to work on hitting the ball further. I can't wait to play tee ball tomorrow. Did you know the inventor of tee ball was Jerry Sacharski?

Te Huarere

 In Te Ngahere we are learning to create our own weather report in te reo Maori. We got paired up with a buddy I chose Anyah. Me and Anyah had to choose 6 places to report on we chose Wanganui, Otaki, Auckland to Northland, Nelson, Rakiura and kaiapoi. I think Anyah and I did well at communicating with each other and working together to get our work done. We could work on getting our script and presentation done faster. We were learning this to pronounce Te reo maori. Have you ever had to create a weather report in te reo Maori?

Orientation Day

In Te Ngahere the year 8 students went to Bay of Islands College for the day, there were a group of year 8 students that went from Paihia School and Karetu School. It was really fun I got a taste of what it’s like to be at college it is not really different from a primary school. The only difference is that I am no longer one of the oldest people in the school. My least favourite subject I attended yesterday was social studies. My favourite subject was art and P.E. What college or high school are you thinking of going to?

My Holidays

 It all started with my brothers rugby game while he was playing I was playing with my little cousin, we were playing kicks with a rugby ball it was a little boring. Then the game was finished. My brother lost his game I forgot who he played. After the game I decided to stay with my nan. While I was spending time with her me and my cousins decided to make a go cart, the go cart was so fun  the first time I went on it I decided to go from the top of the hill I was riding it but when I was near the bottom I did a full on forward flip, it was so sore. For the other week I went to my other nans and we re- built a house. I enjoyed helping my grandparents during the holidays.  What was your favorite part about your holidays ? 

To Troy and Gustavo

 Kia ora bloggers, In Te Ngahere we have been writing some thank you letters for Troy and Gustavo. As you might know we have been doing a lot of things around science and engineering. I have really enjoyed having Troy and Gustavo come in every wednesday to talk to us about the three newton's laws. In our thank you letter we had to include what we enjoyed about the wonder project and we also had to personalize our thank you letter. But a big thank you to Troy and Gustavo. Monday 21st of September

Dear Gustavo and Troy

I really appreciate you guys coming to Paihia School to teach us about science and engineering. I have learnt a lot of things from the last time you guys were here. I have learnt a lot more things about the three laws of motion, I also never knew that there were red kiwi fruits. My favourite thing about the wonder project will have to be the final launch because we came second.

I also appreciate you guys sharing your knowledge and ideas with us this term. I also love the way you guys were patient, respectful and friendly with us even though we sometimes did not listen or respect you. I also loved that you guys never gave up on us and you guys always believed us.  

Thank you Troy and Gustavo for turning up to our school every Wednesday to teach us about science, engineering, all those things. Also a big thank you for putting up with our class.

Final Launch

Last week we did our final launch if you do not know what I am talking about feel free to check out my other post about The Wonder Project. last week, Wednesday we had our final launch. It was a lot of fun because I was the one who wrote down how much water, psi and how far their rocket goes. The furthest rocket went 79 meters, the second rocket that went the furthest was my group it went 54 meters, the third furthest was Roberts group their rocket went 29 meters. We did a good job at creating a beautiful rocket and that took communication. Have you done The Wonder Project? Here is our video of our launching

 

Ki O Rahi

 In Te Ngahere we have been learning to play ki O Rahi. Before we were able to have fun with and play Ki O Rahi we had to do drills. These Drills were instructed by Anyah, Jorjah and myself. These Drills helped with invading, passes, jump shots and many more. I feel  I did well teaching these tactics to the class. What I also did well at was being patient with the children and what I could do  better is to explain more. Have you played Ki O Rahi? 

Pounamu Pendants

 In Te Ngahere we have been learning to estimate using percentages. The activity we did was called Pounamu pendants in this activity we had to find out what was the percentage of the area of the original rectangle piece of pounamu does the finished pendant use. There were four separate pendants and me and Anyah had to go through row by row to see how much the pendants cover on the grid for number A we think the pendant was covering 57% of it. I think I did well at counting up all the numbers. This activity was really fun to do and learn here is a photo of my activity. Do you like maths?

Update On The Wonder Project

 In Te Ngahere you might know that we have been learning about  Newton's Laws of motion, you also might know about Troy and Gustavo, if you do not know them can you please check out my other blog post about the Wonder Project. We are currently working on our rockets, two weeks ago my group and I made our first rocket, our first model was not very good because there were holes and the air in the bottle would escape or leak. Our second model didn't really go far, at least it went somewhere this time. Our third model went a long distance but sadly we did not film it. I think we did a good job  at working together as a team.

How To Say Sentences In Te Reo Maori

 In Te Ngahere we have been learning to recognise, understand, and use familiar words associated with games. We also have to recognise and understand short phrases and sentences associated with learning, learning to recognise, understand, and use familiar words associated with past tense. When we learnt how to recognise, understand, and use familiar words associated with past tense, associated with games and associated with learning we had to make our own book that are associated with all these things. We also had to do it in Te Reo Maori. I did well at saying the Maori words. I could work on a more interesting presentation. Here is my DLO

Tips On How To Find Prime Numbers

 During pangarau this week we have been learning about prime numbers and what they are made up of, prime numbers are made up with 1 and itself meaning all prime numbers are multiply with only the number 1. An example of a prime number would be 1, 2, 3, 7, 11,17, 23 and many more, the reason these are prime numbers are because you can not do any timetables that add up to these numbers beside 1. This activity was really frustrating for me because I did not know what 1 and itself means so I was really confused, to get over this I asked for help. After we learnt about this we had to make a DLO.

What is kawa of care? The kawa of care are rules to keep your chromebook safe and useable. For this activity we had to create a DLO to show people what they should and shouldn't do with there chromebooks. I decided to make a google drawing about what you should and shouldn't do with your chromebook. I liked they way I finished the kawa of care activity very fast and I could work on putting more information about what you should and shouldn’t do with your chromebook. Cross Country

This week in Te Ngahere we have been getting fit for cross country. This has been really hard because I am not fit or ready for cross country but I will try my best. To get ready for cross country we are doing some laps around our field for 20 minutes we have also been doing some circuit training sit ups, ski jumps, jumping jacks and crab walking to help with our fitness.

The Wonder Projects

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about rockets and Newton's Law. Yesterday two men named Troy and Gustavo came in to our class to talk about what their interests were and what they do. Troy is interested in music, his animals and gaming. Troy works at the Far North District Council, he started as an engineering apprentice, he worked with roads, water, wastewater and stormwater. Currently he is working as a civil stormwater engineer. Another reason why they have come to our school was to teach us about the engineering and technology part about building little play rockets. Yesterday was the first day of our adventure with the Wonder Project. We have 7 more days with these two amazing people. I can't wait for the new things we can learn about during this new experience. Have you ever experience doing a wonder project?

Tricky Tik Toks

In Te Ngahere Anyah and I used two dances from Tik Tok that we choreographed so that they were fun and appropriate for school then we taught them to our class. The name of one of the songs we danced to was called laxed Jam created by Jawsh 685 who is actually from New Zealand. After we taught the class the two dances we presented it to the whole school at our assembly, it was very fun and nerve racking at the same time. I did a good job at teaching the class these dances. I could work on giving more clear instructions. Have you heard about Tik Tok?

How To Identify Angles

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to identify angles. There are different type of angles called acute, obtuse, straight, reflex and a full rotation. To find an acute angle it is always less than 90 degrees and greater than 0 degrees. To find an obtuse angle it is always greater than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees. I did well at identifying the angles but I need to work on measuring these angles. Have you ever had to identify angles before?

Traditional poupou art

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to draw poupou. Poupou is something that is put up in peoples maraes or houses. Usually poupou represents someone or something. When we started drawing our poupou art we needed a pencil, paper, pastels and a ruler to make it smooth. Before we got to our good copy which was on an A3 piece of paper. When we sketched our Poupou art we had to practise designs on a seperate piece of paper then sketched those onto our Poupou. We also had to outline our drawing in vivid. lastly we had to practise our blending skills then we had to put that on our poupou art. This art is really cool and fun. I did good job at focusing on my art and not social talking. I could work on a bolder body and more patterns. Have you ever tried Poupou art before?

How to convert fractions into percentages and decimals

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to turn fractions into decimals and percentages. This was really hard but I got out of the pit. After we learnt how to convert fractions into percentages and decimal we had to teach others so we made a DLO (Digital Learning Object). I did well at the multiplying bits of this activity. I could work on multiplying big numbers like 25x400. Did you like my DLO?
