SLJ 3 facts about new Zealand

Did you know on the 1st of January 1901 New Zealand was once governed with the New South wales of Queensland and was then Governed with Australia but New Zealand and Australia are separate country's. Did u know that New Zealand is one of three country's that have two official national anthems. they are called God save the Queen the other one is God defend New Zealand. My favourite one is God Defend New Zealand. Did you know that us New Zealanders are called kiwis we are called that because of our native bird witch is called kiwi but the kiwi is no ordinary bird it is a flightless bird because of it's little wings and big body.

Healthy breakfast

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about healthy breakfast. Whaea Gina came to our class and showed us labels on a breakfast box. We had to read the sugar, fat and fibre. The sugar and fat needs to be under 10g and the fibre needs to be over 5g. For your breakfast to be healthy. I enjoyed learning about how much sugar can be in a box of cereal.

Healthy drinks

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about healthy drinks. I learnt how much sugar is in a drink. There were traffic lights to show you how much sugar is in them and if you should drink them, once a month, once a week and if you should drink it. The highest was in an energy drink with 24 tsp of sugar. Scientists  say that you should only have 5 tsp a day. Now that I know scientists say that you should only have 5 tsp a day I will try to make healthy choices with my drinks.

Bess wax wraps

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about plastic and reusable things. This year we were able to make beeswax wraps. First we had to draw on a piece of fabric and it was really cool. After we did that we had to dip it into melted beeswax that Anouk brought in. I really enjoyed it and I can't wait to use it.

Native birds and tree

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about trees, birds and plants for inquiry. I chose to research the manuka tree and kakapo. I think I did a good  job by adding information for the kakapo. When I made a presentation about the manuka tree it had lots of interesting information.
Here are my presentation's.

Healthy ecosystem

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about ecosystems. First we study about how it works and what it is and we wrote a story about ecosystems, I think I did good at writing what it needs and how it works, I think, I could get better at adding more information in my ideas. Here is my story.

Healthy Ecosystems
A healthy ecosystem is made up of inorganic matter (non-living) and organic matter (living). Producers, consumers and decomposers are all living things.
Inorganic matter are things like: rocks, sand, water and the sun. Organic and inorganic both have an important role in a healthy ecosystem.

Decomposers are living things such as bacteria, algae and fungus  they are living and decomposers break down dead matter.

Producers are also living things such kelp, seaweed and neptune necklaces because they live by sunlight, water and co2 (carbon dioxide) they make their own energy.

Consumers are living things such as fish, kina, sharks, crayfish and they are things that eat consumers they also eat producers and each other.

Inorganic matter are things like sand, rocks, water, sunlight and some shells, inorganic matter can provide a ecosystem for some animals.

If one of these parts are missing then the ecosystem becomes unhealthy. So if there are no kelp that absorb the sunlight then the kina is going to be hungry and so will the others.

Moment and time

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about descriptive writing. We had to put descriptive writing into our story called moment in time it was about Te Ngahere (the bush) . I think I could do better at adding In more descriptive words in my story and finish it.
Here is my writing.

                               Moment In Time
The green bushes with the deep blue sky and the sunlight bouncing off the
The Beautiful ferns, The smell of refreshing air, Unaware of any humans,
a deep cliff about to touch the cloak of the sky,
very interesting noises of bird like music to my ears,
leaves blowing across me, trying to find a path way.

Kaitiakitanga o te Moana

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to make connections between different things we viewed or read about Kaitiakitanga o te Moana and rahui. I enjoyed learning new things about rahui and kina barren. I enjoyed learning about rahui because I had no knowledge about it and I learnt that the pou is a carved wooden post. It is a signal to tell you not to go there for fishing or diving for sea food because there is a rahui in Matai Bay and they want to save the fish. We had a choice to share our learning about Kaitiakitanga o te Moana. I chose google slides.I think I need to work on finding more information and collaborate with my group.

I am not going to tell you what happened so see for yourself!

Here is a presentation with some videos why we chose rocket science and What we could do better.

My Pepeha

In the last few weeks Te Ngahere we have been learning to say our pepeha. We also had to make a
visual pepeha. So I made a powtoon. A pepeha is saying who you are and where you come from,
We also had to add our whanau in our pepeha. I think I did a good job at pronouncing my pepeha.
The thing that I found most challenging is making the powtoon because I always forget to save it.
Hope you guys like my powtoon.
